This made me laugh. A lot more than many so-called comedies. It obviously has something to say about today’s society, but never in a preachy way. The kids almost steal the show, but I really hope that Viggo Mortensen will (at least) get nominated for the Oscars!

Eastern Promises

I’ve already discussed David Cronenberg’s A history of violence, and in this one the director teams up again with Viggo Mortensen (with a superb Naomi Watts along for the ride) to produce yet another masterpiece. Still not for the squeamish (I’m looking at you, extraordinarily brutal Turkish bath scene), but well worth your time.

This may be David Cronenberg’s most “normal” movie, but I guess that would be relative… Viggo Mortensen is absolutely fantastic in the title role, and could be the next Robert De Niro. I mean that in a nice, pre- Meet the parents kind of way.
